- The sunflower is native to North America and was first cultivated by American Indians around 3000BC. The oil was used by them for soothing snake bites and to help condition skin and hair. Sunflower oil was first industrially produced in 1835 in the Russian Empire. Russia and Ukraine are still the world's largest producers. Sunflower oil is the non-volatile oil compressed from sunflower seeds. Its color ranges from clear to amber yellow.

Sunflower oil is commonly used in cosmetic formulations as an emollient and is a general-purpose oil that suits most cosmetic applications like creams, lotions, body butter; massage products; nail products; eye products; salt scrubs. Sunflower oil is monounsaturated and polyunsaturated oil of oleic-linoleic acid group of oils.
Sunflower oil is a natural and healthy way of maintaining great skin, thanks to its calming and emollient (moisturizing) properties. Being rich in nutrients and antioxidants, it is widely used for cosmetic purposes and is found to be effective in aiding repair and healing of a variety of skin complaints. Sunflower oil is also well known for its hair benefits due to its light texture. It helps hair shine, control frizz and tackles dryness.
Properties: Moisturizing, emollient, high in essential fatty acids, high in vitamins A & E, regenerating, adds sheen. Excellent for nail/cuticle treatments & eye/neck areas.
Massage: Sunflower oil is a lovely light, odorless and highly absorbent oil that is very suitable for a massage to help moisturize the body and face. It is a great carrier oil that can help carry other beneficial ingredients like essential oils, into the deeper layers of skin to be absorbed.
Skincare: This oil is non-irritating, suited for most skin types and will not clog pores. It is highly absorbent, rich in Vitamin E, A, C and D and therefore can help protect the skin from sun damage, premature aging, wrinkles and will help generate new skin cells. It is high in linoleic acid and can help moisturize the skin, making it very beneficial for dry, red and irritated skin caused by eczema and psoriasis. It may also help protect the skin of newborn babies against bacteria and germs and can help clear the skin of acne-causing bacteria. It may improve wound healing due to its oleic acid content.
Haircare: Adding Sunflower oil to your regular hair routine can have many benefits. As it is rich in many vitamins including Vitamin E it can help reduce inflammation, itching and build-up of dry skin caused by dandruff, resulting in a healthier scalp, encouraging hair growth and healthy shiny hair. As it is deeply moisturizing it will help make dry and frizzy hair more manageable without leaving it feeling greasy.
